At eighteen years old, alone and on the very fringes of society, Marina Salles is murdered. Or so she thinks, at first. Instead, she is transformed into something of her Lola's Pinay mythology: an aswang, a humanesque creature borne of regret and unfinished business. Death brings her anonymity, and the power of retrospect. Tapping into the memories of her former self, whoever she knew, and her killer, Marina tries to reflect on her brief stint with the living, and discern the meaning of a life: childhood filled with loss, shuttling through the foster care system, and finally, a violent end at the hands of another lost soul. As the clock ticks down, and her aswang identity threatens to become permanent, Marina must decide if she will choose to spare her killer, or reverse her fate the only way an aswang can: the consumption of human flesh.
