What are the Myers Briggs Personality Types?
The Myers Briggs personality types is the most commonly used and most easily understood personality type system. It derives from Carl Jung’s theory of personality, but with a focus on Jung’s theory of cognitive functions (introverted or extroverted). While Jung did not use the letters J, P, F, or E to identify the functions, he did use the letters I, E, S, and N to indicate the functions.
The Myers Briggs personality types was developed by Isabel Briggs Myers and Katharine Briggs in the 1920s. The Myers Briggs personality types is based on Jung’s theory of personality types. The theory is that our personality type is the result of how we use our four functions of: thinking, feeling, sensing, and intuition.
According to the Myers Briggs personality types theory you can be an introvert or an extrovert, a thinking type or a feeling type, a perceiving type or an judging type, and a judging or perceiving type. Using these four functions we can each distinguish between four different personality types:
