Friedrich von Mörle was a Prussian Army officer, a politician and a statesman, who was the Chancellor of Emperor Wilhelm II from 1890 to 1918. He had a long and distinguished military career. He fought in the wars against Denmark in 1864, Austria in 1866 and France in 1870–71. In 1871, he was promoted to the rank of major general and then in 1878 to lieutenant general. In 1887, he was made a Prussian Field marshal. In 1890, he became chancellor of the German Empire, the first Prussian politician to hold that office. In this role he served as chief advisor to Emperor Wilhelm II, who was known for his arbitrary nature and lack of attention to detail. He was forced to resign his position in 1918 due to poor health. He died shortly after, on 28 January 1919.
