"I find myself wanting to curl up and hide," said Lofree, who was diagnosed with PTSD after she returned from Afghanistan. "I can't explain it. It's like something happened and the world suddenly changed and I suddenly lost my security."
With her son, she started a nonprofit organization called "Let It Out." She said her organization is meant to help people who have been wounded in war to be more comfortable with the process of coming home.
Lofree said she hopes her organization will help other veterans to come home from war with the same diagnosis she has been given.
"It's a very isolating experience," Lofree said. "I want to do whatever I can to help others. It's a very personal issue for me, and I feel it's a personal issue for others."
As a young man, Lofree served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, but he never killed anybody or saw any combat action. He said he was injured in a motor vehicle accident when he was in high school and has been in therapy ever since.
