So, this is my favorite series, and I love how much the show portrays the complexities of relationships between people who significantly differ in their dominant traits. I think that’s such a vital piece of the whole show.
A lot of the time when you see a character like Piper in Orange Is the New Black, she’s a very headstrong and confident person who is very hard on herself. She’s a very honest person, and she’s going to tell you exactly how she feels. Piper’s a very strong woman, but she’s also very introspective and empathetic.
You have to have both sides of that coin. You have to have strong characteristics, but you also have to have the softer characteristics, because being strong doesn’t mean that you can get away with being a bitch or being a jerk. You have to get that balance right. I’m really impressed with how this show does it.
I think the other big thing about this show is how it does not underestimate any of the characters.
