Cosimo Iᵉʳ of Tuscany, born on 12 June 1519 in Florence and died on 21 April 1574 in Villa di Castello, near Florence, was Duke of Florence from 20 September 1537 to 21 August 1569 and then the first Grand Duke of Tuscany until his death, during the last years of the Renaissance. He was appointed successor to Alexander after his death.
