Serena was first seen in Shadowhunters. She first appeared during Clary’s first day at the Institute, when she, Jace, Clary, Alec, Isabelle, Simon, and Izzy were walking to the Clave. They were attacked by the Shadowhunters of New York City, which resulted in the four Shadowhunters being transported to Alicante. Serena was working at the school as a librarian, but after arriving in Alicante, she joined the Shadowhunters. Serena was later seen at Jace’s party at the Institute, where Simon ended up starting a relationship with her. After Simon’s kidnapping by the Valentine’s Day Killer, Serena’s mother, Jocelyn Fairchild, went to the Institute to find him.
