    Benedetto Croce was a very prolific Italian philosopher, logician, and writer in nineteenth-century Italy. He was born in 1822 in La Spezia, in the province of Liguria, in the region of Piedmont. His family moved to Genoa in 1823, and then to Milan in 1828. After a very short period of training as a lawyer, he turned to philosophy at the University of Turin. In 1852, he moved to Naples to join the faculty of the University of Naples, where he remained until his death in 1882.

    His works include La scienza della logica (1865); Metafisica della ragione (1872); Saggio di una teoria della conoscenza (1871); Il Pensiero e i suoi rapporti col moralisimo (1872); Scritti filosofici (1882); and Saggio di una teoria della conoscenza (1875).

    Benedetto Croce (25 February 1866 – 20 November 1952) was an Italian idealist philosopher, historian and politician, who wrote on numerous topics, including philosophy, history, historiography and aesthetics. In most regards, Croce was a liberal, although he opposed laissez-faire free trade.
