Eugene Thacker personality type is INFP, so I’m not sure if that’s right on point, but it’s close enough.

So why is this guy so controversial? Well, because he doesn’t agree with the official position of the Church of Scientology. He believes that L. Ron Hubbard (who founded Scientology in 1952) was a fraud and that the Church of Scientology is not the only path to salvation. He thinks that you can find enlightenment through spiritual practices like Buddhism, Hinduism, and Taoism. He teaches what he calls “The New Era Dianetics”, which is based on the book Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard.

Before Thacker started his website, Scientologists were trying pretty hard to suppress Thacker’s teachings. He was even kicked out of Scientology for a while, which really pissed him off.

“I saw them try to keep me out of their precious church. They thought they could control me. But they couldn’t. I had too much power in my own right. That’s why I had to start my own church.” ~ Eugene Thacker

Eugene Thacker is a philosopher, poet and author. He is Professor of Media Studies at The New School in New York City. His writing is often associated with the philosophy of nihilism and pessimism. Thacker's most recent books are the Horror of Philosophy series and Infinite Resignation.
