Florence Burgat (born in 1962) is a French philosopher, research director at the Institut national de la recherche agronomique, assigned to the Husserl Archives (ENS-PSL-CNRS) since 2012. She is particularly interested in animal life, the animal condition, and animal rights [1].

Thanks to an analysis of comparative phenomenology, Florence Burgat shows that everything opposes the life of plants to the life of animals or man (each time according to their own modalities), that is to say to a life lived in first person by a living mortal. The inexhaustible revivification of plants, their division that gives birth to other plants, their indifference, so far removed from the anxiety of flesh-and-blood beings, form two radically different modes of being[2].
