    Herman Tønnessen

Herman Tønnessen was a Norwegian–Canadian philosopher and writer. His philosophical inspirations stem largely from Peter Zappfe. He went against the metaphysical statement that "life is meaningless" by replacing it with even "life is not even meaningless". Tønnesen proposes that we live a life of an authentic man even when we are aware that this is an illusion or an self-deception where man is nothing but an intelligent pig with a sense of cleaningness and indoor plumbing. Having studied with Arne Næss, in the years following the end of World War II he was affiliated with the Norwegian Institute for Social Research
