Jan Patočka (June 1, 1907 in Turnov - March 13, 1977 in Prague) is one of the leading Czechoslovak philosophers of the 20th century. Influenced above all by Edmund Husserl, and to some extent by Martin Heidegger, he is interested in phenomenology and directs it in new directions, such as that of an asubjective philosophy, of a difference between epoch and reduction. He also works on Greek philosophy: on Plato and his influence on European civilization, but also on Aristotle and his conception of movement.
