Pittacos (in ancient Greek Πιττακός / Pittakós), born around 650 in Mytilene, on the island of Lesbos, and died around 570 BC, was a Greek statesman and general, probably of noble Thracian origin [1]. 1] He was chosen as an asymmetrist of the city of Mytilene to restore order there and overthrow the enemies of the city led by Antimenides and the poet Alkaeus. 2] He is one of the "Seven Wise Men" of antiquity. 3] He delivered his homeland from the tyrant Melanchros.
