Régis Debray (born 2 September 1940 in Paris) is a French writer, philosopher and senior civil servant.
Engaged alongside Che Guevara in the 1960s, he was imprisoned and tortured several times in South America. He later became a prolific writer. In the field of information sciences, he created and developed the field of mediology and founded the journal Médium. In 2020, he founded the European Institute of Religious Sciences, a French public university chair on "the teaching of religion in secular schools". He was a member of the Académie Goncourt between 2011 and 2015.
