Ray Hall personality type is ESTP, in an interview, in the Observer, in the Guardian, in The Atlantic, in The New Yorker, he stated that he is an INFP. Hall was born in London to American parents, shortly after his birth his father left the family, Hall has said that his mother was a drugs addict who suffered from bipolar disorder, and that she committed suicide when he was ten. He was raised in foster homes, at the age of four he moved with his mother to San Ramon, California. When he was 13, his father returned to the family, Hall attended San Ramon Valley High School, where he played basketball and was active in school theatre. He graduated from Liberty High School in Walnut Creek, California, during this time he began to write songs and play guitar. He also spent time working on the floor at Sears department store in Pleasanton. As a child he drew inspiration from music, citing Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Hall attended college at the University of California, Berkeley. While at Berkeley he played guitar in bands, but dropped out of school after his first year to pursue his career.
Ray Hall is a former Australian rules football player who played for the Richmond Football Club. Hall grew up in New South Wales, playing for the Balmain Australian Football Club before moving to Woy Woy where he was recruited by the Tigers having played in the Under 18s state squad. Hall played 99 games for the Richmond Tigers, predominantly as a ruckman. Hall announced his retirement on 28 August 2007 because a hip injury ruled him out for the 2007 season. In 2008, Hall spent 12 months as an Australian Government sponsored volunteer in Papua New Guinea, on the Australian Youth Ambassadors for Development program, assisting in sports development in PNG. This has included coaching PNG's Under 18 Australian Rules Football League Team, the Kupundas. Hall returned to Australia in 2010 to join the Department of the Treasury as a graduate. In 2012, Hall joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
