He's tough on the outside because he does not want to let anyone know that he's vulnerable on the inside, and he's tough on the inside because he does not want to let anyone know on the outside that he is vulnerable. He wants to be strong and in control on the outside and on the inside, and it's a very difficult and tricky balance to maintain.
Robert: Tell us a little bit about his childhood.
Alex: His childhood was actually pretty difficult. He was put into foster care as a young child, and he went through some really, really tough times as a child, and his mother was very controlling and abusive. He was basically kept as a prisoner in his own home as a child, and he had very few opportunities to go out into the world. He was stuck in this house with his mother for most of the time that he was growing up, and he didn't have much opportunity to go outside.
Robert: What were some of the things that he was taught as a child that were not helpful either?
