He wants to be a man of the world, but he’s not very good at being a man of the world. He wants to do things his way, but he doesn’t have a clue about how to go about being his own person.
For one thing, he thinks he should have a career and a career alone, and that it should take up all his time and attention. For another, he often has trouble accepting that he has to work hard to get what he wants. He gets frustrated when he can’t get the attention and love he wants from others; he feels much better when he gets it for himself.
