Jay personality type is ESTP, but it is also one of the most misunderstood. ESTPs are impulsive and spontaneous, but this is actually a secondary trait which reflects the highly developed analytical ability of the dominant extraverted sensing function. They are extremely good at quickly sizing up a situation and are sometimes perceived as superficial, impulsive and tactless. This is due to their disregard for social niceties, which is a result of their natural impulsiveness, but is not indicative of a lack of social awareness. In reality, ESTPs can be quite socially adept and are often perceived as “one of the boys”.
ESTPs are often less social before they are fully understood, which is why they often appear to be “uninterested” in other people. This is not due to social ineptitude, but rather to their desire to be understood. As the dominant extraverted sensing function, the ESTP’s primary motivation is looking outwards, while their secondary motivation is analysis and understanding what is going on inside themselves. One of the main functions of this type is to look outwards, gain information and understand what is happening around them.
