Lego bricks are made from ABS plastic which is a petroleum product; LEGO has come under heavy criticism from parents and environmental activists for this. So, what is the real problem?
As we all know, plastic is produced from natural gas, coal and oil. When you use plastic to make Lego bricks, you are using a petroleum product to produce a product that is then taken to a landfill to be disposed of at the end of its life.
Because plastic is made with fossil fuels, it has to be taken to a landfill and burned to carbonize it and turn it into solid plastic. This carbonization process releases CO2 and other greenhouse gases into the air.
