Jungian Type (Introverted and Sensing)
Jung’s theory of types was a major influence on the development of Myers-Briggs type theory. The Jungian type is based on Jung’s observation that while the four functions are universal, they are expressed in different ways in different cultures. Jung saw the clash of these cultural differences as leading to the core personality conflicts of mankind. He believed that each of us possesses a dominant function, an auxiliary function, and a tertiary function. These three functions are called the sensing function, the intuition function, and the thinking function. Each of us also has a fourth function, the feeling function. It is a combination of the other three, which is expressed as our dominant function. Our dominant function is usually perceived as our best and most distinctive personality trait.
In the first edition of Jung’s work, he recognized four functions: the thinking function, which we usually perceive as our dominant function; the feeling function, which we usually perceive as our auxiliary function; and the sensation function, which we usually perceive as our tertiary function.
