George Rokesby personality type is ISTJ, the quiet and reserved Englishman type. It’s a great fit for this story. His ‘gift’ is to slowly explain everything in a very straight-forward manner so that the reader can better understand what is going on.
For example, towards the end of the book, when Rokesby returns to the home of “the old woman” and the man who “came out of the sea”, he explains what happened:
“The old woman was a real old woman.
The man was a real old man, who was not dead at all. He had been dead for more than twenty years, although the body he was in the habit of occupying had been dead for some fifty years or more. But the old woman had not been dead all those fifty years, and it was not her body that had been dead. She had come out of another body, which was still alive, and which had been living in the same place all that time.
“You see, the old woman was not an old woman.
