"Five factors underlie our personalities: Extraversion, Neuroticism, Openness, Conscientiousness, and Agreeableness. These five traits are independent, meaning that each one has a unique contribution to making us who we are, and that they don't combine in such a way that we become some other kind of person. For example, two people can both be extroverts, but one of them may be extroverted to the point of being obnoxious while the other is so friendly he makes people feel awkward. The same is true for neuroticism."
