Grigori Evseïevitch Zinoviev (in Russian: Григо́рий Евсе́евич Зино́вьев), whose real name was Ovseï-Gerchen Aronovitch Radomyslski-Apfelbaum, born in Elizavethrad on 11 September 1883 (23 September 1883 in the Gregorian calendar) and died on 25 August 1936 in Moscow, was a Bolshevik revolutionary.
A member of the Politburo of the Bolshevik Party and president of the Leningrad soviet, he first joined forces with Lev Kamenev and Joseph Stalin to form a troika that marginalized Leon Trotsky, before moving closer to the latter in the mid-1920s. Zinoviev was finally eliminated at the beginning of the Great Purges implemented by Stalin: sentenced to death at the first Moscow trial, he was executed the day after the judgment, on August 25, 1936.
