María Eugenia Vidal is an Argentine politician who served as Governor of the Buenos Aires Province, being the first woman in the office, and the first non-Peronist since 1987. She is affiliated with the Republican Proposal party. In 2008 she was appointed Minister of Social Development in the City of Buenos Aires by then-Mayor Mauricio Macri, who then in 2011 appointed her as Deputy Mayor. She was compared to Margaret Thatcher because she started a war with the Peronist teacher unions. She is a candidate for national deputy for Buenos Aires for PRO, which is part of the Juntos por el Cambio coalition.
