I knew exactly who my character was, but it took me a long time to get there. I started writing during my first year of high school, and I wrote my first novel in the third grade. I was always interested in writing, but I didn't know how to go about it. For example, I didn't know what kind of thing to write that would get me some recognition. I didn't even know what genre I might like to write in. And I didn't want to write about realistic stuff like school life. I wanted to write about fantasy. I wanted to write about the type of things that really happened to me when I was younger.
