Sadly, like the Sanders family, the Kamarov family has suffered a great loss. In 1945, the mother of Sgt. Kamarov died, and the young boy was raised by his father. But in the summer of 1947, when Kamarov was 10 years old, his father was killed in a mountain incident. His widow, Natasha, had just lost her husband and was left with two small children. She quickly remarried, and Sgt. Kamarov lost touch with his brothers and sisters for a number of years.
The young boy, now an orphan, was put into the care of his grandfather, Vladimir Kamarov, a former Red Army Sergeant who served in the Spanish Civil War. Vladimir looked after his grandson while Natasha worked as a nurse in a Moscow hospital. At age 15, Vladimir died suddenly and Sgt. Kamarov lost contact with his grandfather's friends. Then he met up with his siblings and cousins and learned that they were also orphans. The family was eventually reunited, and Sgt. Kamarov's younger sister became the love of his life.
