However, this made him very lonely, and he would often become depressed, especially after his parents died in World War II. It's implied that Makarov was molested by his cousin when he was younger. Makarov was extremely intelligent, but extremely cold-hearted, self-righteous, and proud. During his time in school, he excelled at math and science, but was not able to relate to other children, including his classmate Alexei Stavisky.
Makarov's skills became more specialized as he became older. He could hack any computer system with ease, and could unlock any security system.
