I’m not sure if any further research has been done on the idea of the “inner type”, but I was struck by an article recently about Jung’s theory of typology.
Apparently Jung believed that people were driven by two opposing forces. There was a “conscious” function, which would be the “thinking” half of the personality, and a “subconscious” function, which would be the “feeling” half of the personality. He believed that these two forces could be understood as parents and children, or as the inner and outer world, respectively.
I don’t know if this is true, but I wanted to share it anyway, because it seems to have struck a chord with me.
Perhaps it’s because I have two daughters, or because I have spent so much time in my life helping other people to understand themselves, that the idea of the inner type struck a chord with me. But I wanted to share it anyway…
