His father, Leo Donnelly, is a retired NYPD lieutenant, who spoke with his son about becoming a cop even before Donnelly was born.
“When I was in school, I had two different friends who were cops,” Donnelly says. “They would come to school with their badges and stuff.”
He was attracted to the police force because he liked the idea of serving his community, as well as serving his country.
“I like the aspect of helping people and always being there for them and doing everything I could for them,” he says.
He also liked the idea of having a job where he could be nice to people.
