The tertiary is Sensing, the inferior function, which is where the secondary process comes from. This part of the brain is the process that has become sensitive to physical sensations. Because of its lack of use, the secondary process can’t be controlled by the conscious mind to the degree that it needs to be. This is why Sensing-oriented people can sometimes be so emotionally detached, as they are not as able to control their feelings as they might be.
ISTJs get a lot of their information from the senses. Therefore, they are apt at finding patterns in data and can use that data to predict what will happen next. This is why they can be so good at computer programming and accounting, jobs in which they are often stereotyped as being a bit cold and withdrawn. However, it’s more likely that their lack of feeling is due to the fact that they aren’t able to fully process these feelings in their conscious minds.
