The Baby (a.k.a. the Hatchling) was an infant Metroid taken in by Samus Aran. It was the last of the Metroids born on their home, SR388, as Samus exterminated all the others. She took pity on it and believed the Galactic Federation could research it for the good of mankind, but Ridley stole it for the Space Pirates' purposes. It later died protecting Samus from Mother Brain.
