In his book, Dr Baizhu describes how he was influenced by his Chinese-American parents to be a model minority and to do well in school. He developed a natural interest in math, science and philosophy. He also studied the Chinese language, but was limited by the lack of a teacher.
In high school, he was a very good student until he started taking courses in business and economics. He dropped out of high school, and with his father’s help, went to college to study business and economics. He was very well placed in the business world, but he didn’t feel fulfilled.
He started a business in Japan, but this didn’t satisfy him either. So he decided to go back to college and study psychology. During this time, he met his wife and moved back to Taiwan. He went to a university where he could study psychology without taking an accounting course.
He finished his studies in psychology, and thought he would become a researcher or an educator. He was offered a job as a psychologist for an international company, where he could make use of his English language skills.
