As a child, Ante liked sports and wanted to join the army and become a pilot, but his father considered it too dangerous. He went to university and then began working in construction. "He was a good guy," Saša recalls, "very hard-working, but not very social." "My dad was always working," he adds, "and didn't have time for family. We hardly saw him."
Saša's mother was a kindergarten teacher who doted on her children. But she didn't have much money, and the family lived in a two-room apartment. "We were poor," he says, "but we never felt it."
At the age of 16, Saša fell in love for the first time. He writes about it in his book – with some embarrassment – as if it was an ordinary thing to happen to him.
