    Puskás was a student of the famous Hungarian coach Ferenc Neubauer. He made his debut with the Budapest-based club Vasas SC in 1926 and helped them win the Hungarian League four times and the Hungarian Cup three times.

    He played for the Hungarian national team from 1927 until 1937. He played in three FIFA World Cups: 1934, 1938 and 1954. He scored 12 goals in 13 matches and was chosen as the best player in the 1954 World Cup where Hungary finished third.

    Puskás was engaged in a 20-year feud with Sándor Kocsis, his team mate and rival. This rivalry had a significant effect on Ferenc Puskás’s life and career. When Puskás became an ambassador for Vasas SC, he helped Kocsis get a job at the club, which further strained their relationship.

    Puskás and Kocsis played on 22 different occasions and only lost one, which was their final match together, on 22 December 1945.
