He quickly became known for his spiritual gifts and was chosen by Pope St. Gregory to translate sacred texts from Greek into Latin. After Gregory’s death, he was elected Pope, but after only a few months stepped down due to illness. He is believed to have been chosen with Divine inspiration to be pope because of his great ability to communicate with God.
