    The real-life Marianne Dashwood was a beautiful socialite and literary figure of her day. She was the daughter to a prominent English landowner and her grandmother was the illegitimate daughter of a duke. She had two brothers, both of whom died in their early twenties. Her father did not approve of her choice of husband, and she famously ran away to marry him anyway. They had three children together before he died of tuberculosis.

    Like the fictional Marianne Dashwood, she was an avid reader, and her favorite book was Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. She read it many times throughout her life.

    It is interesting to note that the fictional Marianne Dashwood did not have any children, while the real-life Marianne Dashwood had three children, one of whom died as an infant.
