Makio Sono is a Japanese filmmaker whose films have been widely seen in Europe and the United States, as well as in Asia, especially during the 1960s. His work includes "Shoot! I Love You" (1963), an exploration of prostitutes in his home town of Tokyo, "Ai no manazashi" (1964), "I Saw the Devil" (2009) and the TV series "Koi wa Ameagari no Youni" (2009).
Born on August 7, 1933 in Fukuoka, Japan, Sono was originally a graphic designer who didn't like to draw. Not believing in his own talent, he was also a bit of a coward, and felt that he could never make it in the arts despite his talent as a graphic designer. It was only after he moved to Tokyo that he began to pursue his true love, filmmaking.
