During the summer of 1997, Chihiro was given the power of a wolf, and she began to work at a Japanese restaurant in Tokyo, which is home to several werewolves. Chihiro was able to transform into a human/werewolf hybrid by using both her powers and her instincts. She was only able to change into a wolf every nine months, and during this period she could not transform back into a human. Chihiro also still retained her memories and personality while in the form of a wolf, and this caused her to become increasingly confused and near-insane after each transformation. Her mother, who was unaware of her daughter's condition, made her quit after she attacked a customer. Her father eventually joined her at the restaurant, where he was killed by an enraged customer.
Later that night, Chihiro was attacked by a group of werewolves, but she escaped with help from Yuka.
