Hugh is portrayed by Spencer Grammer and is the main protagonist and the player character of the game. He is a 16-year-old boy with a friendly, outgoing personality and a love of video games. He is also very athletic, and after joining the U.S. Army, he goes through training to become a soldier and he ends up getting picked by Captain Hawkins. He fights for the Army in the war against E.D.F. while trying to find his mother, who has been kidnapped by the enemy and put on a mountain of bombs.
Hugh's personality is similar to Earthbound's Ness: he is a good-natured and optimistic young boy and seems to enjoy and be interested in everything (he even mentions the fact that he likes the word "everything" in the beginning of the game). However, he can also be very aggressive when he has to defend himself or others, especially if they are threatened by danger.
