Chief Yellow Hawk personality type is INFJ, which is actually not that uncommon.
I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say that the show's staff is trying to make her a "badass," though. I think they're trying to make her more relatable and make her more relatable for the audience.
Honestly, it's actually pretty easy to make an INFJ character "badass." We've done it before, in fact.
The problem is that it's harder to make the character relatable. We're all familiar with the INFJ personality type, so to try to make one relatable, you have to do something different.
When you have a personality type that is so rare that less than 1% of the population has it, you can't just go "hey, this character is just like me!" You have to find other things about them that are similar to other people so that they can be relatable.
But since INFJs are so rare, the only way I can think of to make them relatable is to make them more likeable. It's impossible to make them seem more likeable if they're already likable characters.
