The Underdog personality type is INFP, the Introverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving. The underdogs are sometimes called the "misunderstood" or "reluctant" personality type. Underdogs are those who crave the company of others, but who feel most secure when they are alone. They are often loners, but not in the same way as some of the other introverted personality types. Because of their desire for privacy and their need for social interaction, they become quite close to their friends and loved ones. They can be very private people and will often hold back from others, sometimes even guardedly so. Underdogs are often labeled as "quiet" or "clingy", but this is often a misconception. Underdogs can be very outgoing, but their preference is to be alone. They don't dislike company, but they need time and space to think and reflect. This can make them appear aloof or reserved to others.

Underdogs are sometimes called "misunderstood" or "reluctant" personality types because of their need to be alone, but it is not always true that being alone is the best thing for an underdog.
