Nina lives in a place called the Island of Happiness. Her "best friend" is a cat named Kiki. She loves music and playing the piano, and she always sings to herself or when she's sad. She's very emotional and sensitive, but she's brave and has a lot of love to give when she's in a good mood.
When Nina wakes up, she's in her room, still asleep. She wakes up in a panic, afraid that her parents are going to take her away from the Island of Happiness, and she rushes out the window to the beach. As soon as she gets there, however, her best friend Kiki welcomes her with an enthusiastic chirp. Nina looks down and sees a strand of hair sticking out from under the white sheet over her bed. She pulls it out and looks at it for a moment.
A few seconds later, she hears the door open and quickly hides under the sheet again. It's her parents! They're laughing and talking about her singing, but they don't notice her.
