This is because INTPs do not see the world in a linear fashion. They also dislike routine and they dislike doing things in a way that they would expect everyone else to do them.
Another key difference is that ISTJs are more likely to enjoy a structured environment that is very predictable, orderly and detailed. Whereas INTPs may be drawn to a more chaotic, free-flowing environment.
