7 personality type is ISTP, which is what I am. It is the most common type, representing 25-30% of the population.
It's not fair or right to say that ISTP means you don't have empathy. We all have empathy, but it is something we focus on and turn on and off. When we are in the INFJ mode, we are more likely to have "empathy" for people in need or people who are being mistreated. We are more likely to take action to help them. But when we are in the ISTP mode, we are more likely to be "matter of fact". We are less likely to take the time to really look at the situation and try to understand what is going on. We are less likely to take that action. We are less likely to really do anything other than just go through the motions of trying to help. It's just not in our nature to do so.
The INFJ mode is about getting involved in other people's lives, trying to help, understanding, healing, loving, etc. The ISTP mode is about taking what's there, making it work, fixing it, making sure it doesn't get messed up again.
