Leatherface is also one of the few Remake characters to have his canonical emotions more clearly defined than his original counterpart. For instance, he is shown to be more easily angered than his counterpart, as he becomes more violent when his feelings are hurt, as seen when he first discovers Carol's role in his family's deaths, and also when he discovers her duplicity. This is shown in the novelization, where he becomes enraged when he finds out she is actually a member of his family who was sent to kill him. He is also shown to be quite inflexible, as shown when he decides to eliminate the family at the end of the novel, despite the fact that he had previously decided to spare them for their own safety.
In the original version, Leatherface is shown to be quite sensitive and easily hurt by the least little thing. In the novelization, he is shown to be a tortured soul, who is constantly tormented by a recurring nightmare that haunts him even after he is killed. In the novelization, he is shown to want to protect his family, especially from Carol.
