She was born in Krypton and she first appeared as a baby in the comic book story "Superman and the Legion of Superheroes". She first appeared as an adult in the story "Supergirl: Birthright".
She was sent by her parents to Earth as a baby, and she's been raised as a Kryptonian citizen. She often acts as a super-powered protector for the citizens of Metropolis. She's known as "Supergirl", and she uses her superpowers to fight crime and protect the people of Metropolis.
