I’d like to note that I’m a pretty good proofreader and proofreader-in-training, and I find it kind of funny that I’ve put those two words together in the same sentence because they’re almost opposite. Taking criticism well is something I take seriously because I believe it can be a very valid source of feedback for my writing. It’s important to hear what you’re doing wrong, and that can help you work towards being better.
The biggest issue I have with the way Nerd types are typically portrayed is that they have an excessive amount of patience. In RL, I’m a pretty patient person, but when it comes to writing, I’m an absolute monster. I will go through a work-in-progress several times before I’m satisfied, and if it doesn’t meet my standards, I will abandon it immediately.
I don’t know why, but I always think of the phrase “butterflies in my stomach” when describing this type.
