He was born in the year of the Horse and is a 4th generation Chinese Hong Konger. He had quite a tumultuous youth. He grew up in Hong Kong with his parents who were originally from Guizhou, China, just like him. His father was a British Chinese from the “Red Army”, which was a guerilla army that fought the Japanese occupation of China in the Second World War. He was raised with strong beliefs and values of the Communist Party that are in line with traditional Chinese values.
Most people would think that following in his father’s footsteps would have been the right thing to do, but Wah Sing Ku decided to fight for his own country, Hong Kong. He joined the Communist Party at a young age, and spent most of his time in the countryside, fighting for the Communist Party. He was eventually captured by the enemy and sent to prison for 3 years. While in prison, he met a fellow Chinese man who was also a communist fighter.
