Mark Watney personality type is ENTP, which fits perfectly with the description. He’s a witty guy who has a great sense of humor and can be kind of a goofball at times. He’s an idealist and a dreamer, but he’s also a realist. He can be a little naïve at times, but he’s a good judge of character, which is a necessity in space travel.
In addition to being a mechanical engineer, he’s also a geologist, botanist, and biologist. He’s a hands-on guy who’s not afraid to get his hands dirty. In the book, he says that he’s done everything in the past 10 years except be laid up in bed for an extended period of time. He has no interest in being in bed for an extended period of time.
