I was living in Moscow and she was on assignment in the city at the time,” says Guzinsky. “She was on assignment with her husband, who was also an investigative journalist, and had just published a book that exposed the corruption of the Russian government at the highest level. She later put the book together with another author, who wrote it in English.
Anna Stepanovna Politkovskaya (Russian: А́нна Степа́новна Политко́вская, 30 August 1958 – 7 October 2006) was a Russian journalist, writer, and human rights activist who reported on political events in Russia, in particular, the Second Chechen War (1999–2005).
On 7 October 2006, she was murdered in the elevator of her block of flats, an assassination that attracted international attention.
